The Devil's Kitchen Fall Literary Festival at Southern Illinois University Carbondale

 

The Devil's Kitchen Fall Literary Festival is an annual three-day festival feauring readings, panels, and book signings by writers from across the nation. The festival is held on the campus of Southern Illinois University Carbondale and is sponsored by Grassroots, SIUC's undergraduate literary magazine.

Grassroots also sponsors the annual Devil's Kitchen Reading Awards in Poetry (Emerging and Established Poets), Literary Fiction, Genre Fiction, and Nonfiction Prose . These awards recognize two poets, two fiction writers, and one prose nonfiction writer for one book of poetry by an emerging poet (book-length or single-author first or second collection of poetry), one book of poetry by an established poet (book-length or single-author third or subsequent collection of poetry), one book of literary fiction (novel, novella, or single-author short fiction collection), one book of genre fiction (novel, novella, or single-author short fiction collection), and one book of prose nonfiction (literary nonfiction, memoir, or single-author essay collection) published in the preceding year.

The Devil’s Kitchen Fall Literary Festival is made possible through funding from the SIUC Fine Arts Activity Fee, the Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (CURCA), the SIUC Dept. of English Graduate Writers Forum, the SIUC Creative Writing Program’s Visiting Writers Series, the SIUC Department of English, the SIUC College of Liberal Arts, and CRAB ORCHARD REVIEW.
