I Should Have Walked With You

Cecilia Lee

Sometimes I jump the gun but it never really lasts
In two or three weeks I’ll wonder why I moved so fast
Like trying to predict a movie based on the title
Or running forward with my eyes closed
Waking up the next day to see all the chances I had blown

You and I are parallel lines
Too alike to fit together but hell if I’m not trying
You watched me walk away
What if I said it was because I was afraid
Not because I wanted the opposite of you

Was I too excited or were you not excited enough
All my friends predicted love
But your whispers were filled with lust
I tried to give the flame oxygen
I blew it out instead
I jumped up too fast and the blood rushed to my head
