A Light Still Burns Within

Erin Philpott Childers

When my feet are stumbling in the dark
and time again I miss the mark—
when to despair, my soul does “Hark!”
A light still burns within.

When all the hope about me caves
And I’m pounded by Life’s awful waves—
When I’m bound by sin that never saves,
A light still burns within.

When I’m bloodied by the scourge of Fear
And Sorrow’s storms draw every near—
When anguish mars my every tear,
A light still burns within.

When I’m walking through the trial once more,
And my heart cries out, “Lord, nevermore!”
When I travail upon Death’s burning shore,
A light still burns within.

When to His grace again I cling,
Of His praises I will choose to sing—
For a victory He will one day bring,
God’s light still burns within.
