It is Still a Beautiful World

Jesse Benedict

Despite the boring job
Despite the drudgery
Despite the joint pain and weathering body
It is still a beautiful world.

Despite the sad times
Despite delayed funerals
Despite my friend who was lost
It is still a beautiful world.

Despite harsh winds and rains
Despite the floods and fires
Despite pandemics
It is still a beautiful world

In the changing colors of the sunset
In the shadow cast by a cloud
In the trees that sit next to a river
I can see it.

In a fun game or a good book
In a park where children play
In a wide smile or loving embrace
I can see it.

In the birds flying south
In the beavers making dams
In the way the stars twinkle at night
I can see it.

In times of quiet or solitude,
I can see it.
And despite it all
It is still a beautiful world.
