A Million Wishes Deep

Bushra Elsnousi

I came upon a revelation
That’s indifferent yet unique.
Once I saw you,
Walking down the street.
Clarity of thought
Reached a dull peak.
I daydream of meeting you,
A million wishes deep.

The earth moves
And we have days.
The sight of the sun
Is there when we awake.
I leave home every day
And come back for a break.
I yearn for amusement
In each step that I take.
I wish good for all
A million wishes deep.

Sometimes I can’t hold myself,
I jump in a joyous leap.
Sometimes I care not
If I stay or leave.
Is it rich,
Or sorrowfully cheap?
I don’t need to die.
I don’t need to live.
There lies hope
A million wishes deep.

Why the fuss?
Why the freak?
Every success story,
Each role model we keep,
Goes through the same motions,
Step by step, then a leap.
You start slow
And you suddenly peak.
You reach your incompetence,
Then, your magic proves weak;
The roots of your work remain, however,
A million wishes deep.

Worries are out of their rightful proportions.
No sadness so blinding and no happiness to keep.
We are contented every while.
Then it ends, our little comfort streak.
The sight may be rough,
And the hill may be steep.
You may reach your potential
Or lose the soul you used to keep.
I’m young but I look around,
A million wishes deep.

I am good to all,
But at times, grievances creep.
I pull it together,
As I innately weep.
With very little effort
I’m a decent friend indeed.
Do not take my kindness as weakness
With pride, I plead.
Our planted seed should grow
A million wishes deep.

Maybe love will set me free.
I’m searching for a meaning to seek.
A beauty to look at,
A pleasant soul to reach.
I wish for that,
A million wishes deep.
