Big City Lights

Jason Thompson

Big city lights blinding my eyes
Taxi cabs and billboards with no end in sight
Trapped in a world where no one knows my name
One in a million but we’re all just the same

I’ve got New York dreams
With small town hope
With all of my strength,
How far can I go?

Every corner I turn there’s a new sight to see
Everyone seems to have their eyes upon me
Not because I’m famous or I stand out from the crowd
But because I have a smile that I carry around

I’ve got New York dreams
With small town hope
With all of my strength,
How far can I go?

Rejections come to the front of my door
But through all of the rejections, all I want is more
No one can stop my small town aspirations
Where I come from, I can be the inspiration

I’ve got New York dreams
With small town hope
With all of my strength,
How far can I go?

Finally I receive some amazing news
A new opportunity that I can finally pursue
I walk to a cab with a set of wide eyes
Finally ready to see what’s inside

With all of my strength,
How far can I go?

Big city lights might not be as bright as I thought
With a little bit of courage, I can obtain what I sought
I’ve learned that anyone can reach for the stars
If we all just be who we truly are
