Broken hearts fill the street
For all the world to see
Broken from hate
That outlasted the love
That came outside
Of the stars above
Hearts battered by greed
And assaulted by pride
Broken to pieces
Unable to revive
Where is the love
That we all called “friend?”
How did it all
Come to an end?
People sleep on benches
And get their meals from the trash
Houses are robbed
And cars are smashed.
“What could we have done?”
We all ask to the sky
Always asking how
But never asking why
Greed and pride
Have destroyed our souls
Buried our love
In six feet deep holes
Marked with stones
That bear our mistakes
Faults of the world
We cannot seem to break
How we all hope love
Can arise from the ash
To see this world
On a whole new path
But for now, we wait
And sit in despair
Until all of us
Start to actually care
