Harvest of Verse

Tayler Hill

Do you ever
Eat a plum so juicy
That it takes you
Right back to
That honors English class
Last period junior year
When you first heard
William Carlos Williams
Talk about those plums?
Cold, in the icebox,
And the sweet drippings run
Down your chin and
You’re reminded of the
Bounty of Rosetti’s
Goblin Market and of
Seamus Heaney’s blackberries,
The scent of Frost’s apples,
And you wish you
Had someone with whom to
Talk of fruit and poetry.
