never fly too close to the sun,
lest the heat melt your wings.
never fly too close to the sea,
lest the spray weigh you down.
yet as humans, we fly closer and closer
(the icarus within)
the daring feeling of first kisses
and driving too fast
we dip down into safety, the comfortable silence between chaos and confusion.
yet
we
dip
too
far.
ever-growing worry
as the future marches on
with or without us
(the icarus within)
hubris: adjective
excessive pride or self-confidence
icarus flies too close to the sun
flaming wax streaming down sun kissed skin
as humans, we were not designed to fly
yet we choose to
choose to ignore chemical reactions and evidence in favor of desire, chasing
the icarus within
