Mackenzie Delisle
This night has gone on too long.
To you, the clocks have stopped.
Past mistakes replay in thoughts.
You feel stuck in eternal shade,
without a light of hope aglow.
The dark doesn’t last forever.
These feelings age and die.
The sun will rise again for you,
pulling, tugging on the new page.
Don’t be afraid to let it turn.
Forget those decisions you regret.
They cannot harm you anymore.
Shake out of your mind those people,
the ones who have come and gone.
Let that voice of doubt be washed over
by crashing waves of your confidence.
Know that worth shines off of you
brighter than any star you’ve seen.
So open your eyes, at long last,
which you have squeezed shut.
Can’t you hear the birds chirp?
The sound is crisp and strong.
Their feathers, dripping in grace
with majesty hard to replicate.
The path to dawn is nearly over.
Watch the sky paint itself for you
and let yesterday slip off and fade.
Pull back the dust-covered curtains.
Don’t be afraid to let the world in.
Bask in a warm day, fresh and bright
with that weight off of your mind.
Your breath feels like your first.
Inhale, free and unfiltered.
Open your eyes, sunrise is here.
