The Life of Ambre Valentin

Aveniel Mohr

Told from the perspective of Ambre Valentin;
a reflection on her life in pantoum style poetry.

The caged life I have lived,
And the experiences I have endured,
were hardly by choice.
Therefore, am I a victim of my life?

These experiences I have endured,
My broken heart would certainly tell you,
That I am just a victim of my life.
But what of the life I have made since then?

And if the stories in my broken heart
Could have taught me something
Perhaps the life I have made since then
Would not have turned out this way.

If my past could have taught me something,
I wouldn’t have become the criminal I am now.
Therefore, I know I would not have turned out this way.
But I can’t go back; I will have to live this life.

But if I wouldn’t have become the criminal I am now,
I would never have met Harvey, who showed me true love.
So since I can’t go back, I will be happy to live this life.
Because without him, I know more scars would come.

If I never would have met Harvey, without his true love,
I wouldn’t feel the safeness I felt now.
Without him, I know there would only be more scars to come.
And when I asked him just to be beside me, he was.

That safeness I felt now, that I never had before,
Was something I would cherish forever.
Just him being beside me was the greatest gift he’d given me.
I don’t think he knows how much that changed me.

Something I would cherish forever,
Is the sound of his envy-colored motorcycle coming home.
He would never know how much that changed me,
Just to know someone was coming back to me.

When I heard the sound of his motorcycle coming home,
I would wait up for him like a child,
Knowing someone was coming back for me.
Truly he saved me from myself; he gave me a reason for life.

So forever, I will wait for him like a child,
Gratefully knowing that now and forever,
He truly saved me from myself, giving me a reason for life.
I can never tell him thank you enough, but I will surely try.

That is the story of the broken, beautiful life I have lived.
