Vicious Gods

Aurora Flowers

You’ve honored the promise to me,
Life followed the path you said would be,
No strays from your answers.
Laying upon my childhood bed,
Dreading going to my marriage bed,
I would to pray to you:
“Please spare my life”
I had pled,
Repeated till I choke.

It was then you told me this,
Without any malice but with sharp hiss,
Your voice answered my prayer.
“Your flesh will not be wed to him,
But this life, no matter how grim,
Is mine due to your whim.”
What god replies past dark?

My body safer with a man,
An unknown mortal man,
Than this wicked lover I’m damned.
Time now misses its mark.
I am cursed to wear a facade,
At the side of my cruel god,
All because I thought I’d die if I married.
Vicious gods prowl the dark.
