Winter’s Wrath

Cecilia Lee

the frigid wind in the air makes its own path
a girl with her face to the sky, open to winter’s wrath
a smile on her lips, snow on her brow
frozen eyelashes, she knows it’s winter now
snow swirls in the headlights
the car slips on ice

cold stone in the hard ground
sniffles and sobs the only sound
buried on a cold winter’s day
forever her name will be on display
in a graveyard at the back of the church
a snowy owl sits on the branch of a birch
it calls to the night with cries of sorrow
then flies away with hopes it will snow tomorrow
